Beth Lo (1949 - present)
Beth Lo was born in Lafayette, Indiana on October 11, 1949 after her parents migrated to the United States from China. She graduated from the University of Montana with a Masters of Fine Arts in 1974. She was a student of Rudy Autio, another notable ceramicist at UM. Lo became an instructor at UM after Autio retired in 1985. She received the UM Provost’s Distinguished Lecturer Award twice, in 2006 and 2010. She gained international recognition for her work, and has received many other awards.
In addition to ceramics, she and her sister published two children’s books. Beth Lo has been focused on community, and continues to produce exceptional art, staying engaged with the public. Her reflection and expression through creating pieces, music, and books teach us how there are many ways to reach people if we are focused on what we can do for the Missoula community.
