Monte Dolack (1955 - present)
Monte Dolack was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana. He showed an interest in art at an early age and would pursue a degree in art, first from Montana State University and then from the University of Montana, earning his B.A. in Missoula. Dolack opened his first studio in Missoula in 1974 and has been a full-time artist ever since. His work addresses different subjects, but he mainly grapples with the myths of the West. His art tackles environmental concerns and works with organizations on commissioned pieces that not only align with his art style but his beliefs. Dolack is recognized nationally for his art.
In 2000, the Missoulian and the Montana Century named him one of the 100 most influential Montanans of the 21st century. Additionally, in 2009 he received the Fine Arts Alumni Award from the University of Montana in recognition of his outstanding career. In 2018, he was honored with the Montana Governor's Award for the Arts. Dolack has left a lasting imprint on the Montana landscape and will continue to do so in following generations.
