Notable Grizzlies

The University of Montana positioned itself at the center of academics, influencing local, national and international change. Montana born and raised, out-of-state, and international students and faculty alike have gone out into the world, enacting meaningful change. Showcased in this exhibit are a few individuals that have been notable throughout the evolution of UM’s history. Although not exhaustive, we hope you find these people’s stories interesting and enriching, and that they tell you something new about the development of UM’s campus and community. The people included here achieved many great things, but some fell short in their ambitions or held beliefs that do not reflect UM’s values. We hope that by engaging in constructive dialogue about these individuals, we can come together in recognizing the mistakes of the past in order to create a more welcoming institution for students now and in the future.

As you move through the exhibit, think about who shaped your own experiences and values at UM.
