Brian Salonen

  • Brian Salonen is an iconic Griz athlete, going from Griz football to the Dallas Cowboys in 1984. Salonen was born in Glasgow, Montana, on July 29, 1961, and attended Great Falls High School in the late '70s. Salonen became a Griz football player, playing both tight end and linebacker positions from 1980 to 1983. Salonen was named UM's Most Inspirational Player in 1982 and Most Valuable Player in 1983.
  • ​Salonen played in the National Shrine Game in 1984, and stayed with the Dallas Cowboys until 1987. In 1993, Salonen was inducted into the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, and into the Montana Hall of Fame in 2016. Salonen currently lives in Missoula, Montana, and helped coach the Hellgate High Knights. Salonen currently works as a financial advisor.
